Policymakers Visit Pharmacy of Grace Shawnee 

Shawnee, KS –  At Pharmacy of Grace, we want everyone—from patients and donors to community partners, students, and policymakers—to understand why medication access and patient knowledge (counseling) matters.

This August, we have been fortunate to welcome two members of Congress for tours of our Shawnee location, and both visits reminded us of something important: when people see this work up close, they immediately understand the importance of what we’re doing. 

Representative Sharice Davids — August 6, 2026

Representative Sharice Davids visited our Shawnee location during the naming ceremony for Hope, our new ScriptPro prescription-filling robot, and she came with a lot of questions.

One area she asked about was the government programs that make it possible for Pharmacy of Grace to offer deeply discounted medications to patients living in poverty. One of those programs allows qualified nonprofit health organizations to purchase medications at significantly reduced prices. As the primary contract pharmacy for a qualified nonprofit, we partner with them to pass the savings 

directly to the patients who need them most. Without programs like this, many of the medications our most vulnerable patients depend on would simply be out of reach.

Representative Davids wanted to understand how those programs work in practice and what would help us continue to serve our mission. It was exactly the kind of conversation that makes a difference. It’s not an abstract policy discussion, but a real look at how government programs translate into real outcomes for real people in her district.

“I’m really glad Pharmacy of Grace is expanding into Shawnee because having a pharmacy like this in our community can make a real difference for families who are struggling to afford their medications. I loved seeing how they’re using new technology to fill prescriptions faster and more safely, while giving pharmacists more time to actually talk with patients and help them get the care they need,” Davids told us after her visit. “This new location means Pharmacy of Grace can reach even more people across our community and help make sure cost isn’t standing between Kansans and the medications they need. I was glad to celebrate alongside the community!”

Her engagement showed a commitment to something we deeply believe: healthcare access is not a partisan issue. It is a community issue.

Senator Roger Marshall, MD — August 11, 2026

Senator Roger Marshall brought something most lawmakers don’t have when they walk through a pharmacy door: a medical degree. As a physician, Senator Marshall understood immediately that Pharmacy of Grace is more than a pharmacy. It’s a clinical model. He saw how our pharmacists counsel patients to understand their medications, monitor for side effects, and coordinate with referring providers. He appreciated how our ScriptPro robot boosts efficiency so our team has more time for direct patient care. He learned about our sliding-scale pricing and our community referral network and he understood how each piece addresses a specific gap in the healthcare safety net.

But the most powerful moment of the visit didn’t come from our team.

A patient happened to be at the pharmacy picking up her medications when Senator Marshall arrived. Angela pulled one of us aside to share that Pharmacy of Grace had “saved her life” — those were her words. Her blood pressure and diabetes had been dangerously uncontrolled. She was uninsured and couldn’t afford the medications her doctor had prescribed. She found us, and today she is healthier, stable, and no longer forced to choose between groceries and prescriptions.

We grabbed a moment of Senator Marshall’s time so he could hear Angela’s story directly. He listened. And when she finished, he hugged her.

No talking point, statistic, or policy brief communicates the stakes of medication access the way that moment did. We are so grateful to Angela for her willingness to share her story and for reminding everyone in that room that the work we do directly impacts real people. 

Why These Visits Matter

We believe (and what both of these visits affirmed) the more the public and policymakers see the reality of medication access on the ground, and the need for patient knowledge on how to take medications, the better equipped they are to understand the need.

We serve all patients regardless of their political affiliation, their insurance status, their language, or their zip code. And we welcome visitors of all backgrounds because we believe deeply in this mission and we know that once people see it in action, they will understand why it’s so important.
